It's that time of the year when EVERYONE want's immense abs.
We are 8ish weeks away from the Summer and you are just thinking about getting training to get your abs aren't you?!
The Benchmark team have been doing this for the last 6 months so we are well ahead of the game but I will help you out this once ;-)
Well here is my top 5 moves for putting you in the right track for INSANE ABS.
#1 PRESS ABOVE YOUR HEAD
Grab yourself a barbell or dumbbell, stand up straight, abs clenched tight and drive up straight above your head, squeeze your abs tight at the top and bring it down slowly for 5 seconds.
You are literally using HUNDREDS of muscles when you are stood up straight, now imagine the benefit by adding weight into the equation.
Do 8 reps, throw in 8 burpee's for good measure, rest for 1 minute then repeat for 5 sets.
We advise to not do what Ultimate Warrior is doing in this picture but I just thought it was a fantastic reference.
#2 WALK LUNGE
Find yourself a couple of dumbbells or a barbell (depending on space), now lunge forward in a walking fashion for 16-24 reps. If you don't have the space then walk as far as you can, spin round and repeat for 16-24 reps.
#3 STOP DOING CARDIO
I am going against the grain here slightly but get your ass off the treadmill, find yourself a hill or some steps and literally SPRINT up them as fast as possible.
Give yourself 90 seconds rest and repeat this 8-10 times, or until your legs feel like they have been hit with a taser.
#4 STEP UPS
Another brutal full body exercise is the step up, we use this a lot down at Benchmark because it is literally AMAZING!! Find yourself a step that is just above knee height.
Literally step up till stood on it fully then step down, repeat 10 times each leg. To make it a little bit harder just add dumbbells.
#5 GOBLET SQUAT
This sounds kinda scary, grab yourself a dumbell/ kettelbell and squat down as low as you can. Check out this video as it explains it pretty damn well. Repeat this for 12 reps, go down slowly for 5 seconds, pause at the bottom and drive up quickly.
Of course all these exercises are great but you need the WHOLE package!!
