Most people are going so wrong with their diet nowadays, just keep it simple.
But most people go wrong from as soon as they wake up!! Don't be that guy.
When we wake up (naturally) we have higher cortisol (stress hormone), higher blood sugar, and higher adrenaline which is to get us alive and kicking in the morning. Hence why guys get 'morning glory' (I think that's the technical term).
As soon as you add sugar into your breakfast you are 100% automatically switching off fat loss!! And setting yourself up for a roller-coaster of a day. Don't do it, simply swap it for something high in protein such as an omelette, which is just EGGcelent. Anyway less of that.
Protein in the morning will equal better fat loss.
It was a cold Tuesday afternoon in January and Ben and myself were training in the gym. I think we had too much coffee.. Mainly because we start chatting about what we wanted to do in the next 10 years, this lead to a very passionate conversation about opening a gym. Our own gym. So be it, 2 months later we had done it.
And it was one of the best decisions I ever made, but that doesn't mean it was the easiest decision, it took balls and a lot of hard work.
We went scouring the web to find units in our local area, emailed a lot of people and rang a lot more. We viewed about 4 or 5 different places and we weren't too sure on them to be honest, we were starting to get a little fed up but we never stopped looking. A couple times a week we would get together drink some coffee and go on a massive hunt, it was tiring and draining especially as we were running our own PT businesses alongside this. But still we didn't at one point give in.
Eventually we found our dream Unit, we were over the moon!! We walked in saw the size and the potential of the place and about 3 weeks (and 50 emails later) we had got the keys.
As you can see from the picture above we had A LOT of work to do, make no bones about it we had a very busy month ahead of us. We knew the graft we had to do, the hours, the physical labour, the finances and the mental preparation that we had to invest, but still this didn't stop us. We knew the end goal and EXACTLY what we wanted it to look like.
Essentially to make the environment to train in which we could only dream of we needed to:
- Remove over 110 bags of material (down 3 flights of stairs), 2 sofa's/ tables, and a lot of general waste
- Build an office/ changing rooms
- Paint 2 coats on the walls and paint the ceiling
- Recondition the floor and windows
- Find and purchase the kit we needed to provide the service we wanted
Oh yeah all this whilst making our clients the strongest and fittest they could possibly be.
We gave ourselves a month because we didn't want to delay. So for the next 4 weeks it was training clients for 4 or 5 hours p/day then go to the Unit and crack on with the tick-list, which by the way was never ending. Trust me I cannot emphasise how much coffee and boost bars got us through the next 4 weeks.
To be completely honest I think we were 2 weeks in and I was really tired, was going to train clients with paint in my hair, smelling of turps and just feeling groggy from sweeping, painting and carrying bags all day. I think I had almost hit the wall when we spent literally 5 days stood on scaffolding painting the ceiling white. There is something about staring at a white wall which really sends you a little crazy.
BUT no matter what I NEVER wanted to give in, call it a day or delay the open night, we stuck to the plan and just kept ploughing on no matter what happened. Me and Ben were literally the only ones that saw past all the work, we knew what was at the end of this, we knew the goal.
We invested a lot of resources, called in a lot of favours and eventually we got the job done!!
The open day was mental, very stressful and it wasn't till 5pm that we actually had a gym to be proud of. Because up till then it still looked like a huge space!!
For all of those that came to the Open Night we THANK YOU, it was a great night and we really appreciate you coming to celebrate our hard work...
So as you can see we started with a dream, and we turned it into a reality. We did this with a lot of hard work, passion and patience.
What I want to say to YOU, the person reading this right now is one thing...
WE ARE NO DIFFERENT TO YOU!!
We put our socks on the same way as you, we are only humans. We get tired, worn out and fed up at times.
To reach the unthinkable all it takes is one big step followed by lots more steps, don't look at your end goal as something which is miles away. All it takes is patience, hard work and passion, if you really want to look and feel the way you could only dream of then you need those 3.
To summarise I would say this, never give up on a goal or a dream that you have. I am one year in to being self employed and already I have reached one of my life long goals. You never know what you are capable of if you just give up and quit, I feel this picture below explains perfectly what I am trying to say.
Thank you for taking the time to read this, I am sure I will see you in Benchmark, if you haven't already been down to see is then APPLY below to work with us.
Between us me and Ben have totalled around 10 years experience of working in commercial gyms.
Treadmill, TV, XTrainer, vending machine ridden commercial gyms. **SHUDDER** It makes me cringe just at the thought of it.
WHAT IS THE ISSUE WITH COMMERCIAL GYMS?
1: THEY DON'T GIVE A SH*T ABOUT YOU
Sorry but they don't there is no other way to put it. At most gyms you are literally just another number, another sale, another member to them. There is no actual support, yeah you may get the gym instructor ring to book you in once a month for a 'check up', this is only because they have to as it's part of their job role.
2: THEY SET A REALLY DEMOTIVATING ENVIRONMENT
I am all about setting a positive thriving environment for our clients to train, you can't progress and grow if you don't have the right environment to thrive!! In Gym's you literally have no motivation to want to be the best. You are surrounded by treadmills, vending machines, x-trainers, negative members, fed up staff and just an energy sucking environment.
3: THE 'STATE' OF THE GYM
The state of the gym is usually pretty unhygienic, weights all over the floor, toxic air con flowing, and the most sole destroying music playing.
4: THE SUPPORT
There is none. What has your current gym done for you to point you in the right direction of your goals?
This is the BIGGEST MISTAKE you are making... being a member of a commercial gym.
Fair enough it is only costing you £15 p/month but you're literally paying for something that has given you no benefit?
Why are we any different?
1: Well first off you know the two coaches.. Mark/ Ben.
2: We take a VERY personal approach to anyone that walks through our door.
3: We don't just train ANYONE. We only want positive, enthusiastic, thriving clients. Don't apply if you ain't prepared to put the work in.
4. We are RESULTS DRIVEN, we both have track results of clients that have progressed in their physique, strength, and health.
I am not saying that you MUST train with us, but what I am saying that is you don't see results then I will personally REFUND you 100% of your investment and will recommend you another gym to join.
