Imaging going through your whole life being called by your name.
Through school, high school, by your friends, your family, and your colleagues.
30, 40, 50 years you have been spoken to by name.
Then, all of a sudden you become this membership number, like something out of a Black Mirror episode.
All of a sudden you feel like a small cog in a big a machine.
YOU pay your membership, YOU hope and pray there is a parking space, YOU turn up, YOU sometimes get on a crowded class, other than that you’re left to your own devices in-between 4 walls with load of expensive fancy equipment.
You may get a smile off the odd person, other than that, the only interaction you will ever get is:
“Are you still using that mate?”…
The only time someone will call you from the gym is if your payment didn’t go through. Or if the manager has forced an instructor to ring people that haven’t been into the gym for a while for a ‘review’ of the pre-made generic programme they had written.
So the question is… When do you ever feel like you belong there?
When did you someone text you to say “We haven’t seen you this week”?
When did another member show you round and get to know your name?
When did the trainers greet you by name?
When did you get offered a coffee?
When did the gym post on Facebook to keep you motivated?
When did someone celebrate YOUR progress?!
If you have read this far then it shows that you can relate to this post, and you probably know by now that the gym you are at does nothing for your progress.
